NEW YORK MESOTHELIOMA LAWYER DISCUSSES DANGERS OF ASBESTOS EXPOSURE AND MESOTHELIOMA CLAIMS

This video continues our discussion on the dangers of asbestos exposure and the diseases it can cause. New York mesothelioma lawyer Robert Komitor co-hosts this segment. He has been representing people in mesothelioma and asbestos claims and lawsuits for more than 20 years in New Jersey and New York.

Asbestos exposure occurs when fibers are breathed in by workers - and the fibers go deep into the tissue of the lungs. When asbestos is breathed in it can cause fibrosis, or scarring, in the lungs, as well as mesothelioma and other cancers. New York mesothelioma lawyer Robert Komitor discusses the fact that most mesothelioma and asbestos claims are put forth by people exposed to asbestos either when it is breathed in, when products containing asbestos are scraped, cut or otherwise handled in a way that causes dust to be released. Often tools are used that cause asbestos products to become dusty. For example, a worker removing an asbestos-containing gasket would often use a wire brush to remove the material from a pipe flange. Since the removal of this gasket would inherently cause direct exposure to asbestos and resulting mesothelioma, a worker would likely have sufficient grounds in those conditions to file a mesothelioma asbestos claim and possible lawsuit. Dust can also be created when asbestos products are installed. For instance, auto mechanics commonly sanded, or grinded brake linings, when they were installed. Breathing in asbestos is the only established cause of mesothelioma.

New York mesothelioma lawyer Robert Komitor further notes that individuals at risk include home and commercial construction workers, shipyard workers, power plant workers, auto repair workers, as well as any other worker who worked with dusty asbestos products in their occupation or at home. Family members of people who worked with asbestos are also at risk of mesothelioma. There have been many reported cases of family members who filed mesothelioma and asbestos claims because of indirect exposure from work clothes that were worn home. This secondary asbestos exposure would be caused by laundering the work clothing.

Mesothelioma and other cancers have been known to be caused by brief exposures to asbestos - as little as several weeks or a month. There is no safe level of exposure to asbestos that has been identified. So any exposure to dust from asbestos products places a person at risk for developing mesothelioma.

A person who develops any cancer such as mesothelioma from asbestos, may be eligible to file a mesothelioma claim and resulting lawsuit. New Jersey and New York mesothelioma lawyers, Levy, Phillips & Konigsberg, are very experienced in assisting New Jersey and New York asbestos exposure victims in mesothelioma and asbestos claims and lawsuits.
